Let’s Do This 2019!

How to crush your goals in 2019

Let me start off by saying, I’ve never been great at setting or sticking to New Years resolutions. I’m sure I’m not alone in this! In fact, most years I don’t even set them, and if I do I usually won’t verbalize them, they’re just wandering inside my head with no accountability. So this year I wanted to do something a little differently.

We’ve had some amazing things happen in 2018 – we became pregnant with our second little blessing, and I decided to go all-in with influencing/blogging. As a whole, however, 2018 was a really tough year for me mentally and on a personal level. It was one of my most difficult ones yet. My main focus for 2019 (and really it has nothing to do with the New Year, just the timing of Amari’s arrival) is to focus A LOT more on self-care and have more “me-time” as I call it.

Since having Mila over two years ago, I have put myself and my needs on the back burner in a major way, and I want (NEED) to do better for myself this time around. I figured the first step in achieving that is putting it in writing to make myself accountable, so here we are. There are many facets that will go into obtaining that goal but I won’t bore you with all that.

How to set realistic goals for the New Year

What I plan to do is make a vision board with affirmations specifically for this goal outlining some of the major things that need to happen in order for this goal to be obtainable for me. For instance… giving up some control in parenting, asking for help, prioritizing our marriage, and making way more time for myself. And then furthermore, outlining action plans for each of those individually. I haven’t decided yet where I will put it, but I’m thinking in my planner, or somewhere I look on a daily basis, as a frequent reminder. Maybe even multiple places. But, not tucked away somewhere to be forgotten, and brushed aside yet another year. So if you are a hands on or visual learner like me, consider making a vision board this year and put it somewhere you will see it – as a daily reminder.

As for the typical health/wellness and financial goals as New Years Resolutions – sure, I have those too. But since my primary goal, or resolution, is already a pretty big task that will require lifestyle changes to achieve, I don’t want to set myself up for failure. I think that is the biggest take away when setting New Years Resolutions! MAKE. THEM. OBTAINABLE. And be realistic. Don’t set the bar too high and overwhelm yourself. After all, most things require actual lifestyle changes to “stick” – whether it be for weight loss, financial stability, whatever. What they all have in common is they require consistency and work every single day to achieve long term.

How to crush your goals in 2019

A few take home points to achieve your New Years Resolutions:

  • Be realistic – in other words, make your goals obtainable (aim for 5-10lbs of weight loss instead of 30lbs, crush that goal, celebrate, and KEEP GOING!)
  • Set smaller goals within each bigger one that are measurable – (for my self-care resolution this may be going out to lunch with friends once a month)
  • Write it down, make a vision board, create an outline or flow sheet and put it somewhere you see often!
  • Be consistent – do one small thing every day that works toward your goal.
  • Celebrate every success!
  • Don’t be too hard on yourself!
  • HAVE FUN!

I wish you all happiness and health in 2019! Cheers to another year around the sun! ✨

  1. I’m impressed, I have too admit. Rarely do I come across a blog
that’s both educative and entertaining, and let me tell
you, you have hit the nail on the head. The issue is something that not enough
folks are speaking intelligently about. I’m very happy I came across this in my hunt foor
    something concerning this.
