Besides trick or treating, watching some spooky fun Halloween movies with the kids is a favorite for many. Halloween brings a whole new genre of movies, some of which are scarier than others but there are still plenty of spooky fun Halloween movies to watch with the kids. Movies that are spooky but not too spooky and still fun.
Hocus Pocus has become a family favorite over the years and most everyone knows all about the three Hocus Pocus witches. Rated PG, Hocus Pocus is a great movie to watch with middle school aged children and older. I remember growing up we made my parents rent this for us every Friday night for pizza night. So needless to say, it’s still my all times favorite Halloween movie!
Halloweentown is a close second in our house! It has just the right amount of spook for younger kids, without being too scary! Marnie, who is living as a mortal, but is secretly a witch, takes us between worlds on an adventure to a whimsical place called Halloweentown where witches and monsters of all types live together celebrating Halloween all the time!
Pooh’s Heffalump Halloween
Everyone loves the iconic Pooh character and all of his friends. This movie is great for younger children and includes a little spooky fun.
In the plot, everyone is excited to go trick or treating, but good old Pooh eats all of the Halloween candy. To find more, Roo and Lumpy go out on a quest to capture a spooky goblin who will grant their wish for more candy to enjoy.
Casper, who is known as “the friendly ghost” is a spooky fun movie for older children to watch during Halloween, and is another classic. When a new family moves into an old home that is falling apart, they come to realize that it’s actually haunted with a few not-so-scary ghosts, including Casper. As they try to rid the house of these crazy goblins, the family realizes they need to help the ghosts cross over to the other side. Casper is another Halloween classic, that never gets old!
Another classic creepy but not too scary movie for kids, Goosebumps started with a series of books at first. The movie, which came out in 2015 is a live action movie based off the book series. In the funny and spooky plot, there is an unlikely group of kids and adults that need to save the town from a spooky disaster. Rated PG, Goosebumps is a great movie for kids 8 or older to watch.
An animated film, Hotel Transylvania is the first of three movies in the series and adds a bit of spooky fun to Halloween. The movie isn’t necessarily based on Halloween, but with the main characters being Dracula, his daughter, and other fun Halloweenish characters, it is certainly worth watching during Halloween.
To go along with the popular Air Buddies pets, Spooky Buddies takes the buddies, along with new friends, through a fun and spooky Halloween mysterious mansion. They need to go through the mansion to find Warwick the Warlock and stop his mean-spirited plans for Halloween.
